A woman has died following a house fire in Didcot this morning.

Firefighters were called to the blaze in a first floor flat in Kibble Close at 2.11am.

Crews pulled the woman from the fire and tried to revive her but she was later confirmed dead by paramedics.

They led four other people to safety from adjoining flats.

Fire investigation officers are still on scene this morning trying to piece together how the fire started.

Police are not treating it as suspicious.

Group Manager Mat Carlile said “Every fire death that we attend is a tragedy but fortunately they are still very rare within Oxfordshire.

“We have fire investigation officers on the scene who are working closely with our colleagues at Thames Valley Police to determine the cause of the fire but we are not treating it as suspicious at this time.

“Although there were working smoke alarms in the flat that did operate, this is a timely reminder to everyone to check your smoke alarm regularly.”
