AMATEUR actors have turned again to comedian and playwright Ben Elton for their latest production.

Members of Kingston Bagpuize Drama Group will be performing Elton’s comic ‘revenge tragedy’, Silly Cow, at Southmoor village hall from Thursday to Saturday, May 12 to 14, at 7.30pm, following their version of his West End hit Popcorn a couple of years ago.

Tabloid columnist and scathing critic Doris Wallis is being sued for libel by one of her alleged victims, Miss Trudi Hobson, a classically-trained actress. Miss Hobson is taking her to court on the grounds of defamation of character and unfair criticism of her acting ability, which she alleges has ruined her career.

Directed by Rob Bateman, the show features Andrea Spencer as Ms Wallis, Emily Eastham as Peggy, Michael Lacey as Sidney, Mike Parker as Eduardo and Nick O’Keefe as Douglas.

The play, which features some strong language, was first produced in the West End in 1991, starring Dawn French in the role of Doris.

Elton became a leading alternative comedy star in the 1980s. He co-wrote the TV series The Young Ones and in 1985 he teamed up with Richard Curtis, resulting in the award-winning Blackadder. In addition to his TV writing career, Elton has written bestselling novels and had several West End hits.

Tickets at £8 each are available from the box office on 01865 820375, online from www.wegottickets.com, from Kingston Bagpuize Post Office, Southmoor Food & Wine, or on the door.
