CROWDS gathered as an MG was carefully lifted through the window of Abingdon’s museum yesterday.
The car, which was made in the town in 1980, will form part of a new exhibition on the history of the town in the County Hall Museum, which is having a £3.5m revamp.
Museum spokesman Adela Thomas said: “It was quite dramatic. Word got around pretty quickly in the town and people who came out to do their daily shopping were taken aback. Lots of people took photos.
“By the time it was winched up in to the air we had quite a crowd. I would say about 200 people.”
The MGB Roadster is on loan from the Heritage Motor Centre in Gaydon, north of Banbury, and will be a main feature when the museum reopens in the spring.
