Man told to pay £640 costs in fly-tipping case

A man was told to pay costs of £640 after admitting a failure of duty of care when waste in his control was found dumped in Harwell.

Police arrested Jason Bennett, of York Road, West Hagbourne, after a warrant was issued when he failed to appear in court.

Oxford magistrates heard on Friday that the 37-year-old collected waste in Harwell and charged £15 to take it away in a trailer, which he claimed was then stolen. The waste was found dumped in a field.

He also admitted transporting waste for profit without a licence and was given a 12-month conditional discharge.

Nice to see a fine reflect the crime and go somewhere to what it cost to clean up and prosecute.

Nice to see a fine actually imposed and somebody prosecuted.
Cherwell District Council tend to turn a blind eye to fly tipping in their area, and are very lenient towards it.
That why there is a lot of rubbish dumped in the Cherwell area and it looks rather scruffy.
