UPDATE: 100,000 homes and businesses affected by power cut

ONE HUNDRED THOUSAND homes and businesses were affected by today's lunchtime power cut.

Southern Electric has just said that power has been restored across the county.

It was caused by a safety trip knocking out its high voltage network because of an unknown problem.

An investigation will be launched to establish what caused this now that power has been restored in Oxfordshire.

Southern Electric spokesman Sam O’Connor said: “We’ve got a very flexible network so we were able to route supply remotely via our control room in Portsmouth.”

Only a couple of weeks ago we had these jokers out in North Oxford. They deliberately cut off 100 households 'to rectify a fault', apparently a mile away. They say they don't have to warn if more than 30 households are involved. What??? Also, 2 fire engines turned up within 5 minutes of the cut. A 'false alarm'. The electricity people said it was nothing to do with the cut..... And Oxford United will win the Champions League....

Was anyone else imagining the copper cable being dragged out of the ground to pay for a big fat wedding?
