Bunting, balloons and a pensioner dressed as the Queen were just some of the highlights of South Oxfordshire’s celebrations.
Pensioner Jane Hill cashed in on her passing resemblance to Her Majesty by dressing up as the Queen.
Mum-of-two Mrs Hill put on a show for shoppers in St Martin’s Street, Wallingford, by putting on a crown, a cloak and a long white dress. Mrs Hill, 76, from Dorchester, who works part-time in the Down to Earth store, said: “I’ve been told I look like the Queen so I thought it would be fun.”
Residents in Fitzcount Way, Wallingford, held a street party yesterday to celebrate.
Accountant Hannah McDonald, who was one of the event’s organisers, said: “We put up a few gazebos because of the rain and lots of bunting and balloons.”
Wallingford town council’s Jubilee picnic for families will take place in Castle Gardens today, from noon to 4pm.
In Brightwell-cum-Sotwell, Brightfest was staged on Saturday.Villagers also held a street party outside the Red Lion yesterday, with live music and a barbecue. Sue Robson, landlady of the pub, said: “There were lots of stalls and food was laid on for villagers including a hog roast and cream teas.”
The South Oxfordshire Jubilee Beacon will be lit at Wittenham Clumps tonight at about 10pm at the Jubilee Beacon Party organised by the Earth Trust.
In Wheatley, residents marched through the village yesterday with youngsters dressed as kings and queens.
And in Didcot, trees have been planted outside the civic hall in Britwell Road as part of a new Jubilee garden.
