SURROUNDED by maize, youngsters on a day out explored Millets Farm Centre’s summer attraction.

More than 200 people turned up for the opening day of the Maize Maze at the Frilford farm on Saturday.

Didcot sisters Jevon, nine, Morgan, 11, and Taylor Brown, 13, had fun running around the annual favourite. Their mum Jodie, 33, said the family from Churchill Close had a good day out despite the maze not being as tall as usual because of the weather.

She said: “It’s normally quite tall and they get lost in there. We will definitely go back towards the end of the season. We have been there quite often because you can take a picnic and spend a day there.”

Taylor added: “It was lovely weather so that added to the whole day.”

The centre postponed the opening for two weeks because of slow growth caused by poor weather. Farm events manager Helen Bloomfield said the maize was expected to shoot up as the hot weather continued.

She said: “In the last 10 days it’s grown over a foot because of hot weather.”
