DOORSTEP crime in Oxfordshire has fallen by eight per cent in the last year.

The county bucked the national trend with a drop in reported incidents of rogue traders from 524 between April 2010 and April 2011 to 480 the following financial year.

The change has been hailed as a victory by the Trading Standards Service and Thames Valley Police .

Acting head of trading standards Richard Webb, left, said: “We are obviously approaching this in the right way to buck the national trend, but there is still a lot more work to do. “Behind every incident is a person and often the impact is much more than just financial.

“While it is very pleasing to see a small decline in the number of doorstep crime incidents, it is still worrying that there is more than one a day reported to us.”
