ABINGDON Arts Festival could be back on again next year thanks to a possible funding boost.
This year’s event had to be cancelled after the organisers lost the bulk of their funding from Vale of White Horse District Council.
But Abingdon Town Council was last night due to announce a £25,000 community fund as part of its 2013-14 budget.
The fund would be used to support community groups, such as festival organisers, Abingdon Performing Arts Group Enterprise (APAGE).
Last year, APAGE called off the 2013 festival after a change in funding strategy by the Vale council.
The group had previously relied on a grant of about £4,000 to print and deliver festival brochures.
But, last year, the Vale instead offered smaller grants of £1,000 to each of 10 community organisations.
On the town council’s move, festival co-ordinator Malcolm Ross said: “As soon as the money is available, we will apply for it.”
