PLANS for a 270-home estate will increase the size of Kingston Bagpuize by 20 per cent, an opponent has said.

Glasgow housing developer Mactaggart & Mickel has revealed plans to build the homes south of the A420, east of Witney Road.

Its agent, Kemp & Kemp, has asked Vale of White Horse District Council if it would need to carry out an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) before applying for planning permission.

Village resident Roy Wolfe, of Frax Close, wrote to the Vale expressing his concerns.

He said: “This development will, if approved, increase the village by 20 per cent. Surely, now is the time to require the developers to pay for a replacement school, as the existing one will not cope with even more pupils.”

In a letter to the council, Kemp & Kemp wrote: “The intention is to submit a planning application for the development of the land south of A420 and east of Witney Road for up to 270 dwellings.

“The proposed development is of a relatively small scale compared to the guidance... which suggests that large schemes for 1,000 dwellings or more are more likely to require an EIA.”

The public can comment on the plans at whitehorse.gov.uk until October 10.

The Vale’s planning committee is expected to make a decision on whether an EIA would be required by October 6.
