LEARNING foreign words can be fun, as Abingdon pupil Rachel Burton found out when her school hosted a festival of languages.

The festival is an annual event for schools in the area and was hosted by Fitzharrys School, in Northcourt Road, on Friday.

Hundreds of pupils from Abingdon primary schools attended and were joined by Year 8 pupils from Fitzharrys School.

Fitzharrys pupil Rachel, 12, learned some new German words by making a paper ‘fortune teller’. She said: “It’s fun learning new words — I enjoyed the festival.”

Fitzharrys School spokeswoman Harriet Alderman said: “The festival is a celebration of languages and an opportunity for all the primary and secondary schools to work together to promote and use their language skills.

“Stalls included French weather forecasters, board games, top trumps in French and Spanish and paper fortune tellers to practise speaking and reading.”
