SCHOOL students are celebrating after winning a national business competition by making clocks out of old bikes.

Abingdon School students Oliver Moody, Ben Wilson, Rob MacLennan and Joseph Salter were crowned the winners of tutor2u’s Bin Business Challenge.

The competition asked teenagers to find imaginative ways to recycle household objects. The Abingdon boys, aged 14 and 15, who formed a business called Be.spoke, created a business plan which involved turning old bicycle parts into home products including clocks and candle holders.

Be.spoke MD Joe Salter said: “The event was a fantastic experience – for the four of us to have presented in front of 400 people is something we will never forget, and while it was nerve-wracking it was great fun.”

The young entrepreneurs presented their business plan to a packed auditorium and judging panel at the EntrepreneurLive! Conference at Birmingham’s Star City on October 16.

Despite their nerves the company was pronounced the winner and they received a trophy for their achievement.

EntrepreneurLive! is designed to support and inspire young people.

Be.spoke had a stall at the St Helen’s and St Katherine’s School Christmas fair and will be selling their wares at Abingdon Market.
