MORE than 30 community groups are helping shape Abingdon’s Abbey Gardens and Meadow.

Suggestions made by groups, including 65 pupils from Larkmead and Fitzharrys schools, were used to draw up three possible scenarios.

These would see the area used primarily for sports and recreation, tourism and leisure or as green open space.

The scenarios will be developed by architects in coming months, and once their viability has been assessed and initial designs produced, they will be released for public consultation early in the new year.

Vale of White Horse District Council, which is running the consultation, will ask residents to vote for their favourite.

Cabinet member for economy Elaine Ware said: “We’ve had a great response from Abingdon’s community groups and school pupils to this project, with a whole host of great ideas being put forward for consideration.

“We are really determined to turn Abingdon Gardens and Abbey Meadow into an area that attracts many more people throughout the year, so the more that Vale residents get behind this project the better.”
