A 73-HOME estate could be built in a village near Abingdon.

Glasgow housing developer Miller Homes has applied for planning permission to build the homes east of Abingdon Road, Drayton.

It would have 21 three-bedroom and 23 four-bedroom homes for the open market and 21 affordable homes to be run by a housing association. They would have 274 car parking spaces and 146 bike spaces.

Miller Homes has also included sports pitches and a sports pavilion in its plans, but has invited the land owner and Drayton Parish Council to design a building of “lasting significance” to the village.

In its application to Vale of White Horse District Council, the company wrote: “The proposals will deliver an attractive scheme which integrates well socially and physically with the settlement of Drayton, whilst also creating a distinctive sense of place.”

The Vale’s environmental health officer Alick Natton said the development should not be built until two agricultural grain dryers near the site were removed.

She wrote to planning officers: “Two grain dryers are situated adjacent to the south-west boundary of the site.

“These constitute a significant (if seasonal) noise source. I understand these grain dryers are due to be replaced with a new facility on a different site.”

The council is due to make a final decision on the scheme by Tuesday, March 17.
