YOUNGSTERS grabbed their skateboards and donned their helmets and pads to learn about safety and fitness on four wheels.

Skateboard tutor Geoff Else, of Team Rubicon Action Sports School, was at Marcham Primary School, in Abingdon, on Monday to show pupils some new moves.

They learned how to skateboard in a safe environment and how to master the basics of the sport before Mr Else showed them some more advanced moves.

Mr Else said: “We find the safety angle is quite important these days, as skate parks are becoming more advanced and with younger riders being more of a risk.

“We can help mentor the youngsters on these aspects.

“Our aim is to introduce sports to young people in a safe environment and to show them the benefits active lifestyles can have.

“It takes a lot of skill and determination to master even the basics and it requires the pupils to push themselves and support each other.”

Pupil Edward Porter, 11, said: “The instructor is really good. You are able to be with a friend you can trust and be able to show your tricks and have fun.”

Ryan Belcher, 11, said: “You get to learn a lot about how to ride a skateboard and learn more tricks.”
