A DOCTOR who teaches Oxford University Medical students has launched her General Election campaign for the National Health Party.

Dr Helen Salisbury helped her party launch its campaign for the Oxford West and Abingdon constituency outside the Houses of Parliament on Thursday.

The party was founded in 2012 by doctors, nurses, paramedics and NHS staff in opposition to the government’s reorganisation of the NHS.

Dr Salisbury is one of 13 candidates who will stand for the party in the General Election in May and who were unveiled at the election launch in College Green, Westminster.

National Health Action Party spokeswoman Giselle Green said: “NHA candidates will be calling for the implementation of the NHS Reinstatement Bill, a halt to NHS privatisation, a moratorium on local accident and emergency and hospital closures and an end to flat-line NHS funding and service cuts.”

The NHA is led by Dr Clive Peedell and Dr Richard Taylor. Dr Taylor rose to prominence when he won Wyre Forest as an independent politician in 2001 and held it in the 2005 General Election.

Layla Moran is the Liberal Democrat candidate, Sally Copley is the Labour candidate, Alan Harris is representing UKIP, while Larry Sanders is the Green candidate. Mike Foster is standing for the Socialist Party of Great Britain.
