MORE than 600 people went to the first of what is hoped will be many Oddball Scooter Rallies at Abingdon Rugby Club on the weekend.

About 350 scooter fanatics brought their beloved machines to show off at the event alongside live music, tyrethrowing and a space hopper race in aid of Teenage Cancer Trust.

The two-day event was organised by scooter lover Vince Wooloff, of Eynsham, in memory of fellow fan Ron Morgan of Banbury, who died last year of cancer.

Mr Wooloff, steward at Eynsham Social Club, said: “It was an absolute success. The generosity of people who help has blown me away — I’ve been a bit emotional.”

As well as help from a team of friends, the event was sponsored by J&L Marquees of Tackley, who donated a marquee for free, Skittle Alley music production of Abingdon, who lent a PA and ran the sound for no cost, and RPM Scooters of Hungerford, who donated a brand new £1,200 scooter as grand prize for the raffle.

Live music came courtesy of local ska band The Inflatables, Witney mods Eyecon, rising local stars Vague World and more.
