LORRIES could be banned from overtaking on the A34 if new restrictions are approved.

Oxfordshire County Council will vote today on the motion, calling on the Secretary of State to place the restrictions on lorries travelling through the county on the A34.

Didcot East and Hagbourne councillor Patrick Greene said heavy vehicles should only be able to use the slow lane from junction 13 of the M4 to junction 9 of the M40.

This would effectively ban them from overtaking, which Mr Green said would reduce accidents on the busy route.

The council will meet at 10am today in County Hall, New Road, Oxford.
