THERE were no ugly caterpillars sitting and crying to sympathetic beetles when children crawled to the ugly bug ball.

Youngsters got the chance to create their own ugly bugs at an arts and crafts session at Abingdon County Hall Museum on Wednesday.

Alice Ellner used an old-style wooden clothes peg mounted on silver cardboard to make this colourful dragon fly.

The seven-year-old used sparkling gauze for the wings, glitter, jewels and googly eyes to make the not-so-ugly bug.

Alice, who is about to go into Year 3 at Thomas Reid Primary School, said she would definitely do it again.

She added: “I really enjoyed making it and I liked the background on the silver card.”

Her mum Sarah took Alice and her three-year-old son Noah to event. Mrs Ellner, 34, said: “Alice loved it, she loves doing all sorts of things like that.”
