POLICE raided an Abingdon flat this afternoon in connection with the investigation into the fatal shooting of Kerry Reeves.

Armed officers with dogs swooped on the home in Welford Gardens at around 3.30pm while the police helicopter circled overhead.

Spokesman Gareth Ford-Lloyd said they attended in relation to the hunt for Billy Johnson, 20, wanted in connection with the murder of 26-year-old Kerry Reeves who died in hospital on Thursday after the shooting on Tuesday night.

But he said: "No arrests were made and we are continuing to investigate".

One neighbour who lives in Appleford Drive said: "I heard a dog barking at about 3.30pm and I heard someone screaming 'get it off me'.

"I came out and there were about five police cars and I thought I heard the words 'armed police, put your weapon down'."

He said he saw a girl put into a police car as well as an "elderly gentleman".

Earlier today the force said they had received a number of calls from the public with follow-up leads they were investigating.

Yesterday Miss Reeves' devastated family made an impassioned plea to find the man who killed their "beautiful young girl" in such a "brutal fashion".

Detective Superintendent Chris Ward said 60 members of the force, including armed officers, were involved in the hunt for Johnson, who is orginally from Corby but lived in Abingdon.

He added: "Anyone who has seen him or knows where he is should contact police immediately. We know he was in Abingdon on the evening of the murder but we have not had any reported sightings of him since then."

He said Miss Reeves was the target of the shooting and it is believed she would not have been able to see her attacker when the gun was fired.

Anyone who spots Johnson should not approach him but call 999 immediately.
