AN ELDERLY man had a suspected heart attack at White Horse Leisure and Tennis Centre in Abingdon today, where staff shocked him with a defibrillator.
The man, who had gone for an early morning swim at about 7am, struggled in the pool before falling unconscious.
A lifeguard dragged him out, then trained staff used a defibrillator in an attempt to resuscitate him.
South Central Ambulance Service sent two rapid response teams and an ambulance to the pool, in Audlett Drive.
He was taken to the John Radcliffe hospital.
The swimming pool was closed after the incident but reopened at about midday.
A spokesperson for GLL, the social enterprise in charge of the leisure centre, said: "Centre staff administered first aid, including defibrillation, and called paramedics who took the casualty to hospital for further treatment.”
