A MAN who ram-raided a post office to steal alcohol then led police on a high-speed pursuit has been jailed.

Stuart Healey admitted smashing a silver Honda Accord through the front window of the Drayton Post Office and Store in the early hours of May 5.

The 35-year-old then stole alcohol from the fridge before fleeing, but was pursued by officers all the way to Ducklington.

Healey admitted theft, dangerous driving, drink driving and assaulting a police officer and appeared at Oxford Crown Court on Tuesday, where a judge jailed him for a total of two years and 10 months.

Thames Valley Police have released this video of Stuart Healey being chased by police after the ram raid on Drayton Post Office

The court heard the 35-year-old reversed the car through the front window of the store in The Green at about 2.50am causing between £25,000 and £30,000 of damage.

Justices of the Peace at Oxford Magistrates' Court were told Healey, of no fixed abode, was then caught on CCTV walking to the back of the shop and stealing some alcohol from the fridge.

Police were called and officers spotted the damaged car with a missing bumper in Drayton Road.

The court heard a high speed pursuit followed, with Healey driving at up to 70mph in a 30mph zone and reaching speeds of 85mph on the A420 before ramming a police car out his way on the A415.

Police eventually stopped him on the A415 at Ducklington, near Witney, where he tried to punch a police officer and threw a can of beer at them.

After being arrested, Healey was found to have 59 micogrammes of alcohol in 100ml of breath, above the 35 microgramme limit.

Healey was also banned from driving for two years.
