TEACHERS and pupils at Fitzharrys School are celebrating after being ranked as good by inspectors.

The Abingdon school was previously rated as requires improvement but has moved up a level following a recent Ofsted visit.

Inspectors praised the 550-pupil school for its "warm and welcoming culture" and reported that "relationships between staff and pupils are very strong."

The school's governors were also noted for their passion, enthusiasm and commitment and the headteacher was said to know the pupils well.

Oxford West and Abingdon MP Nicola Blackwood joined in the praise for the school by tweeting her congratulations.

She said: "Huge congratulations to Fitzharrys- so well deserved after all your hard work."

Inspectors described teachers at the school as "an enthusiastic and committed team" and said "good teaching drives good achievements for all groups of pupils across the school."

Headteacher Jonathan Dennett said he was delighted with the inspection report.

He said: "It’s great to have the many strengths of our school recognised so positively.

"We’ve had record results in recent years and are well set for the future. "The report uses the words enthusiasm, passion and pride again and again, which really sums up the special atmosphere at Fitzharrys.

"We have everything in place to continue to move from strength to strength."
