LANDLORDS who were terrorised by knife-wielding burglars have thanked customers "from the bottom of their hearts" for their support.

The Red Lion Pub in Drayton, which was raided on Monday morning, is due to reopen tomorrow in spite of a horrifying ordeal in which robbers locked a family inside a cellar.

Mandy Blessing, who is understood to run the pub with husband John and son Joshua, wrote on the pub's Facebook page today: "John, Josh and I would like to thank each and everyone of you for all of your kind words and support, it really does mean more than you could ever know.

"Again, thank you all from the bottom of our hearts. For all our friends and family."

She announced that the pub in Abingdon Road would reopen at midday tomorrow and run its Aunt Sally tournament as usual.

In an earlier post Mrs Blessing identifies her family as that which was woken up by three men at about 3.45am on Monday, who she said were masked, threatened them with a knife and herded them into a cellar. They stole cash and two mobile phones.

Thames Valley Police this afternoon said no arrests have been made.

Jodie Mytton, spokeswoman for Greene King which owns the pub, said: "Thankfully no guests were on site and no-one was hurt, however we’re providing support to our licensees during what has been an extremely distressing experience.

"Following a review of the pub’s security, additional measures have been installed and we’re supporting the police with their investigations.”
