FORENSIC detectives scoured an Abingdon park after a woman suffered serious injuries.

Police cordoned off trees in Abbey Gardens today and were seen crouched in grass next to the ruins of Trendell's Folly while officers swept the area.

Thames Valley Police said it was called to the park near Abbey Meadow at 10.40am after ambulance crews left the scene.

A spokesman added: "She has been taken to hospital. She is in a serious but stable condition.

"We are making enquiries to determine the nature of her injuries, but at this stage there do not appear to be any suspicious circumstances."
