A THIEF launched a brutal attack on a woman at a cashpoint in Abingdon before making off with her cash.

The victim, 36, was withdrawing money from the ATM at Barclays in The Square at around 2.30am on Saturday when a fight broke out between her and another woman.

She believes her female attacker – who left her with a bleeding nose, cuts across her face and a sprained ankle – stole the money she had been withdrawing from the machine.

A man, whose identity is unknown, broke up the altercation and the victim, despite her multiple injuries, did not require hospital treatment.

The attacker was white, in her mid-twenties and about 5ft 2ins tall. She had long dark hair, was of slim to medium build and was wearing dark clothing.

Investigating officer PC Alexander Devonald, who is based at Wantage police station, said: "We believe there were a number of bystanders at the time of the incident, including the man who broke up the physical altercation between the two women.

"We are asking witnesses, as well as anyone else with information about this incident, to please call the Thames Valley Police non-emergency number on 101."
