A MUSIC project with a difference aims to drum up community spirit in Abingdon.
People can join the town’s first drum circle this Saturday to “express their rhythms” by playing a range of drums.
The circle works as one person beats their own rhythm and others gradually join in to create a full percussion sound.
Paul Eagles, 35, from South Avenue, Abingdon, set up the scheme because he said there was a lack of community activities in the town.
He said: “There are very few groups for families in Abingdon, but lots in Oxford. This is a chance for the community to get together, communicate with each other and express ourselves.
“I want all types of people to come along — elderly, children, parents, disabled, absolutely anyone.
“I’ve done the same kind of thing at other places in Oxfordshire and the sessions have gone really well.”
Sessions will be held at The Net youth centre in Stratton Way on Saturdays from 4pm to 6pm. The cost is £10 for a family, comprising three people or more, and £5 for an adult. Concessions are also available.
