POLICE Community Support Officer and part-time wrestler Adi Wright is promoting a show in aid of soldiers fighting in Afghanistan.
The 26-year-old has been competing as a wrestler for the past six years and has won a string of belts.
He combines the rough and tumble of the ring with pounding the beat as a Pcso in Kennington and Radley.
Now he is hoping to raise more than £1,000 for the Help for Heroes charity at a new wrestling match.
Tickets have gone on sale for Wrestling for Heroes, with the slogan ‘They fought for us, now we fight for them’, at Wantage Civic Hall.
Topping the bill is The World of Sport match-up between 19- stone veteran Showcase Stu Oddessy and former WWE competitor James Mason.
Mr Wright said: “The World of Sport match is what previous generations would remember on Saturday morning television when they were kids, with wrestlers such as Big Daddy. Those type of rules don’t get used often but it will be my main event.
“One wrestler has pulled out due to injury and another has been called up to a bigger event. I don’t plan to fight yet, but I may have to put on the lycra.”
Mr Wright, of Ock Street in Abingdon, has recently shortened his fighting name from Mr Efficient to Mr E.
He has been a Pcso, working the Rural Abingdon beat, for almost three years.
Despite suffering a broken nose twice and cartilage damage to his knee and ankle, he has never taken a day off work.
He weighs 12 stone and has a history in mixed martial arts.
He won his first belt in March last year, and said: “I normally try to keep the two professions separate but on this occasion, I want to use my position as a Pcso to build relations and gain contacts within the community, and arrange an event for everyone to enjoy.
“It has taken up quite a lot of my spare time. Sometimes it’s used all of my days off. But it’s nice to have a mixture of being a Pcso, wrestling and now the promoting.
“I hope to get back in the ring myself soon and get some belts round my waist.”
The Wrestling for Heroes event will include a ladies’ bout, an international challenge and a hardcore no rules match.
Also on the bill are The Gallowman, Canno Tangoe and Banbury’s Oldskool.
There will also be a rock band, raffle and opportunity to meet the wrestling stars.
Servicemen, the emergency services and youth clubs are all eligible for discounted entry.
All profits raised will go towards Help for Heroes charity.
Tickets for the event, which will be held on March 6 from 5pm, cost £6.
