HUNDREDS of spectators filled Abingdon Market Place to watch musical acts battle it out in the annual Abingdon’s Got Talent competition.

The event, organised by the town council, attracted 30 acts and 12 won through to the open-air final in the town centre last Saturday.

Jacob Yolland, 14, of Cokethorpe School, near Witney, won the junior event, singing a song from Disney cartoon Pocahontas, while 29-year-old Natasha Budd, of Abingdon, won the 18-plus category singing a Whitney Houston song.

Event organiser Marianne Milburn said: “It was a very good event with a really high standard of performance this year, particularly in the 18-plus group, where the competition was so close.

“At any one time, there must have been 300 people watching in the Market Place.”

The judges were the mayor of Abingdon, Duncan Brown, Eileen Bagshawe, of Abingdon Drama Club, Steve Rich, of Abingdon Town Band, and BBC Oxford TV newsreader Geraldine Peers. Local band Full Circle played in the interval.
