'Peanut butter's my elixir of life' says 100-year-old

FOR 100-year-old Dolly Sellick, peanut butter could be the elixir of life.

The county’s latest centenarian celebrated reaching the birthday milestone yesterday with a party for family and friends at her Abingdon care home.

And asked the secret to her great age she said: “I put my long life down to my love of peanut butter and exercise when I was younger.”

Great-grandmother Mrs Sellick (nee Walker) also said she felt proud to have been born in the year the Titanic sank and still be here.

Mrs Sellick was born in Islington and lived there until she moved to Westbrook in Grove about 30 years ago.

Mrs Sellick, who has two children, two grandchildren, and one great-grandchild, moved to the care home in Old Station Yard in 2009.

Her daughter Denise Chapman, 65, from Wantage, added: “We have a fantastic mum. She made a lot of sacrifices when we were young and worked long hours just for us.

“We are glad she likes being at Old Station house now that she has reached her 100th year.”
