CINEWORLD is facing a potential full competition investigation over its £47m takeover of arthouse cinema chain Picturehouse, which owns the Phoenix Picturehouse in Oxford.
The Office of Fair Trading has referred the planned acquisition to the Competition Commission, after fears it could limit choice and increase prices for cinema-goers.
Cineworld owns multiplex cinemas in Didcot and Witney.
The commission is expected to report back by October 14.
