A MAN suffered minor burns to his hands and face in a shed fire in Milton Heights, Didcot last night.

Crews were called at 6.24pm Trenchard Avenue and found a large wooden shed on fire which the 65-year-old was trying to put out.

The service said he suffered smoke inhalation and minor burns to his hands and face and was treated on the scene by firefighters before an ambulance arrived. He was taken to hospital for “precautionary measures” they said.

Incident Commander Steve Wright said: "I would like to remind the residents of Oxfordshire to check all electrical systems on a regular basis and not to overload plug sockets or extension cables, if using electrical items in exterior out-buildings please ensure adequate safety systems are in place such as RCD’s and exterior rated sockets.

"I would also like to remind residents of the dangers of fire - we have attended several incidents recently where occupiers have sustained burns when attempting to extinguish fires; the best advice is to: Get out, Stay out and get the Fire and Rescue Service out."
