THE chief executive of Save the Children gave an inspiring talk to pupils at Didcot Girls’ School.

Jasmine Whitbread visited the school and spoke to Year 11s during their assembly.

She told the girls: “It is so important that we support young people in their development as future leaders, and it’s impressive to see that Didcot Girls’ School is doing such an excellent job in this area.”

She said afterwards: “I really enjoyed spending time with the girls and seeing how keen they are to engage with the really big issues which face our society.”

Ms Whitbread became Save the Children’s first international chief executive in 2010, after five years as chief executive of Save the Children UK.

Pupil Emily Godwin, 16, said: “Jasmine’s visit really opened my eyes to the future career opportunities available to me and my friends. It was a really thought-provoking morning.”

Charlotte Hilborne, 16, said: “It was an inspiring visit.”

Headteacher Rachael Warwick said of the visit on Friday: “We were privileged to welcome Jasmine Whitbread to our school. She is an inspiring role model for young women – principled, driven and committed to making a difference to the world.”

Before joining Save the Children, Ms Whitbread spent six years working for Cowley-based charity Oxfam.
