ALL public recycling bins in South Oxfordshire have been removed because residents were leaving rubbish next to them.
South Oxfordshire District Council (SODC) took away about 30 large bins for items like glass, cardboard and paper.
The public backed the move in a consultation, it said, as people were regularly leaving non-recyclable material next to the large bins.
Places like village halls and pub car parks had two or three of the bins each.

Cabinet member for recycling David Dodds said: “Residents can leave all of their recycling at the kerbside, even if it doesn’t fit in their wheelie bin, so there’s no longer any need for the bins in car parks. Our neighbours Vale of White Horse District Council removed their bins and there was no increase in fly-tipping elsewhere, so it shouldn’t cause an issue.”
He said the move would save SODC about £20,000 a year. The bins were removed from 14 sites, mostly village hall or pub car parks.
A total of 31 people responded to the consultation.
