A PROTEST at Didcot Power Station at the weekend will be monitored, police said.

Officers said the No Dash For Gas group is planning a demonstration, called Reclaim the Power, between tomorrow and Tuesday.

Anti-fossil fuel protesters may establish a camp within a few miles of the power station, police said.

Supt Jim O’Ryan said: “We will be working closely with its partners, including the RWE Energy Trading Ltd and those wishing to protest, in order to minimise the impact of the protest on the local communities and fulfil our legal responsibility to facilitate peaceful protest.

“We respect everyone’s right to protest in a way which is non-violent protest against people or property. However, should activity go beyond peaceful, those breaking the law will be dealt with proportionately.

“Measures are in place to notify local residents and those who might be affected by the protests, and our aim is to ensure that there is minimal disruption caused to them and the wider community of Didcot, and the surrounding areas, while facilitating protest.

“However, it is highly likely that there will be some disruption to the area.

People should remain vigilant and take appropriate measures to secure access to open land.”

The No Dash for Gas website said the camp was part of a “global weekend of action on corporate power” ahead of UN climate talks in December.

There will be activities, talks, activist speed dating, workshops on alternative energy sources and sessions on how to effectively campaign.
