DOZENS of bikers are expected to descend on Didcot today for the funeral of taxi driver Conal McGarvey.

The former policeman, who drove cabs for Pryors of Didcot for 20 years, died suddenly aged 59 on May 24 from a heart attack.

Mr McGarvey, who also used to be a delivery driver for West London’s K-Tel records in the 1970s, was a passionate motorcyclist, owned three Italian Moto Guzzi bikes and was a member of the Moto Guzzi club.

His casket will be transported to Didcot’s English Martyrs’ church in Manor Road in the sidecar of a motorbike hearse.

His brother Shane McGarvey, who lives near Thatcham in Berkshire, said: “He was a nice, easy-going bloke and people found it easy to get on with him.”

Mr McGarvey, who lived in South Stoke near Wallingford, died in Ireland while visiting family last month. His funeral service will begin today at noon and people have been invited to wear colourful clothing.
