THIEVES have broken into five vehicles in Wantage this week and stolen items from inside.

Police said the crime spree took place between 7pm on Monday and 11.15am on Tuesday and officers believe the incidents are linked.

Between 9pm on Monday and 11.15am on Tuesday the front passenger window of a vehicle parked in Adkin Way were broken and a wallet was taken. The wallet was later posted through the letter box of a library and is now in police possession.

The bank cards were found in bushes in Haven Vale beside another vehicle which had been broken into.

Offenders broke the front windows of that vehicle between 7pm on Monday and 7.15am on Tuesday. The victim's bank cards were found in the buses alongside those taken from the vehicle in Adkin Way.

A vehicle in Hampden Road was targeted between 7.30pm on Monday and 8.30am on Tuesday when the rear windscreen was smashed and a black leather bag was taken.

Between 8pm on Monday and 6.30am on Tuesday offenders broke the front passenger window of a vehicle parked in Harcourt Road and took a Paslode nail gun which the owner of the vehicle used for work.

Between 11pm on Monday and 10am on Tuesday a wallet, credit cards and loyalty cards were taken from a vehicle parked in Grove Street.

PCSO Chris Ratcliff said: "We’d like to speak with anyone who witnessed any of the incidents, or who saw or heard anything unusual in the area at the times of the incidents.  

“I’d like to take the opportunity to remind vehicle owners not to leave wallets, phones, and other valuable objects in vehicles overnight, even when the vehicle is parked near to home. "
