HERO neighbours rushed to help when they spotted smoke coming from a bedroom window.

Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue Service praised the actions of two men during the fire at a home in Lockinge Close at 6.10pm on Friday.

The pair rushed to help the resident after spotting smoke billowing from an upstairs bedroom window.

They needed oxygen due to smoke inhalation, along with one resident, and were passed to the care of South Central Ambulance Service.

The fire service said the blaze started when a cigarette caused a mattress to ignite and the property did not have a working smoke alarm.

Station Manager Paul Webster said: "The actions of the neighbours at this incident clearly helped ensure the man who was inside the property got to safety and also meant that firefighters could get to the scene quickly and bring it under control."
