DIDCOT’S not-so-secret Santa, Courtney Hughes, has scooped another prize for her five-year charity campaign.

The teenager picked up a St James’s Palace Foundation Children of Courage Award on Friday for her tireless effort to collect Christmas presents for people in care homes, hospitals and hospices across Oxfordshire.

The 18-year-old, who lives in Great Western Drive, started delivering presents aged 13, after her great grandmother was stuck in hospital over Christmas.

The former Didcot Girls’ School pupil attended the National Motorcycle Museum in Solihull for the awards ceremony.

Posting on her Facebook page, Charity Secret Santa Oxfordshire, Courtney wrote: “Totally unexpected award this evening.

“The children and young people this evening who won awards were so inspirational. Feeling blessed and happy.”

Last year, Courtney collected and handed out 4,000 presents at the John Radcliffe Hospital in Headington, Helen and Douglas House children’s hospice and several care homes.

In July she visited the House of Lords where she was awarded a British Citizen Award for volunteering.
