TINY trains chugged into a town hall as model-makers showed off their craft.

Exhibitors from across the country gathered at Didcot Civic Hall on Sunday for a club's railway modelling event.

Train lover Neil Cocksedge, 39, travelled from his home in Kent for Oxford & District Model Railway Club's convention.

He said: "It was an early start for me but it went very well and it was good to see other exhibitors. It's good for families.

"The idea is that visiting members of the public get a bit of a fun day out and exhibitors get to try things out for their own projects too."

Mr Cocksedge brought along one of his own models - or 'layouts' - showing a railway track lined with trees.

He described exhibiting as a 'hobby' but his passion for trains is also reflected in his day job at Southeastern Railways.

He added: "I have had an interest in trains since I was about 10-years-old. I have always had a fascination - my grandparents worked for the railways so maybe that's why."

The public event focused specifically on the Z scale of railway modelling, which is one of the smallest commercially-available scales.
