A LEISURE centre that was threatened with closure is set for a £100,000 revamp.
South Oxfordshire District Council will spend the money on maintenance and improvement works at the Wave in Didcot.
The popular leisure centre, which features a swimming pool with a wave machine and 50 station gym, was earmarked for closure in 2013 as part of plans to build a new £15m leisure centre for the town.
Now the district could has decided to spend money on improving the poolside shower area, changing area and changing cubicles where new benches will be installed.
Parts of the swimming pool air handling unit will be upgraded and the lighting in the pool hall will be improved along with maintenance and repairs to the gym.
Repairs to the roof of the building will also ensure that rain water will flow better, reducing the risk of leaks and flooding.
Councillor Lynn Lloyd, cabinet member for leisure at the district council, said: “We are committed to providing quality leisure facilities for our residents.
"This essential work will provide swimmers at Didcot Wave with improved changing and shower facilities, while also ensuring that the building is better protected from bad weather.”
