TRASHOSAURUS, Munching Molly and Compost Carl are among the names chosen for new food waste recycling trucks by primary school children.

South Oxfordshire and Vale of White Horse Councils decided to give names to each of their new fleet of 12 trucks, operated by Biffa, earlier this year and challenged local schools to come up with suggestions.

These were then put to a public vote and the top six names in each area have now been announced.

Other names chosen include Chompy, Foody Fred, Garbage Gobbler, Green Bean Machine and Trevor.

The most popular name in South Oxfordshire, Trashosaurus, was put forward by a pupil at Manor School in Didcot while in the Vale, Munching Molly was suggested by two pupils at John Blandy Primary School in Southmoor.

The children have been given a swimming pass and £150 in book tokens.

Elaine Ware, Vale cabinet member for housing and environment said: “We wanted to celebrate the new trucks and have a bit of fun while also bringing attention to the importance of food waste recycling.

“We would like to thank everyone for taking part in the vote and we look forward to seeing Munching Molly and friends on the streets of the Vale soon.”
