OXFORD Brookes University's 500-home plan for its Wheatley campus should be thrown out, local councillors have said.

Holton Parish Council has said the scheme would cause significant harm to the Oxford Green Belt without justification, and urged the planning authority South Oxfordshire District Council to reject it.

Wheatley Parish Council has said the hundreds of extra cars leaving the estate onto the A40 would 'create dangerous road conditions for pedestrians and existing road users'.

Wheatley Park School, meanwhile - the main school in the area and Theresa May's alma mater - has said the scheme designers could do more to 'integrate the proposed development with the existing school site and its sports facilities'.

The school has urged Brookes to 'spend more time to understand the school's capacity to take in more students given that we decide our admissions policy as well as safeguarding the school's site'.

Dozens of residents have also sent objections to the district council, mostly about the size and density of the proposed estate.

With the official consultation on the application now closed, South Oxfordshire is aiming to make a decision by April 20.
