A BOOK of memories recording war-time Didcot will be created to mark the centenary of the end of the First World War.

Didcot Town Council is appealing for anyone who had family living in the town to share their stories as part of the commemorations planned for later this year.

In November, the country will mark 100 years since the end of the conflict which killed more than 16million people.

The council wants to hear from residents whose families have been based in Didcot for a long time, or those who moved away and have returned, and have stories they wish to share.

These will be collated into a book which will form a key part of the centenary events with a ball for contributors planned.

Orchard councillor Nick Hards said: “Didcot's railway was a focal point for war time activity and many local families contributed to the war effort.

"We would like to share some of the memories with future generations."
