FIRE crews rescued a dog after a house fire broke out in Didcot this morning.
Teams from Didcot and Abingdon - supported by South Central Ambulance and Thames Valley Police - attended the house in Newlands Avenue, at around 8.20am today.
A neighbour was praised for their quick response, after hearing a fire alarm and spotting smoke coming from a window in the house.
It is believed that the fire was accidental and caused by a hob catching light.
Fire crews made sure that a dog in the property was safe and well after forcing entry to the building.
Wearing breathing apparatus, crews quickly found that a fire had broken out in the kitchen of the two-storey house.
They rapidly extinguished the blaze, which had done limited damage to the home. The building was then ventilated by a high-pressure fan.
Didcot Watch Manager Jon Walker said: "thanks to a working smoke alarm inside the house, the alarm was raised and the neighbour took the appropriate action in calling the fire service."
