A WALLINGFORD primary school which Skypes a primary school in Pakistan to learn about life there has been given an award for its international links.
Fir Tree Junior School was presented with the British Council’s International School Award.
Pupils set up a link with Jack and Jill School in Rawalpindi, and learnt, among other things, that children there loved playing cricket. The project gave the children at both schools the chance to learn about each other’s country, culture and language.
Headteacher Nilofer Khan said: “This award is acknowledgement of our work with the children in raising global awareness and citizenship. We will continue to enrich our curriculum with opportunities for the children to learn about the wider world and their place in it.”
The award is a “badge of honour” for schools doing “outstanding” work in international education, such as linking to partner schools overseas.
John Rolfe, of the British Council, said: “Fir Tree Junior School’s fantastic international work has rightfully earned it this prestigious award.”
