IT’S not everyday you see a group of tattooed middle-aged men walking through the streets wearing nothing but thongs while batting ping pong balls.

But then again not all fundraising groups come up with such unique ways of making money for charity.

Didcot’s Thong Rangers, also including women in “Foxy Rangers” cheerleading costumes, completed a 10-mile route with bats and balls in four hours.

They raised £1,000 through collections on Saturday for SSNAP, the charity that supports the special care baby unit at the John Radcliffe Hospital.

Group founder Cliff Oakes, 51, said: “We’re just everyday people who go to work and put ourselves out to help others.

“We got one or two funny looks but a lot of people know who we are and what we’re about. You need to have something different to raise money in this day and age.”
