HUNDREDS of spectators turned out to cheers on drivers in the Wallingford Vehicle Rally and Parade.

About 250 vehicles took part in the rally on Sunday before parking up for a display on the Kinecroft.

For the third year running organisers raised money for Dorchester children’s disability charity Footsteps Foundation.

The foundation supports the Footsteps Centre, which provides intensive physiotherapy for children who have neurological conditions including cerebral palsy.

Alongside classic cars there were trial bike displays, fairground rides and a road safety display by the fire service.

Graham Smith, 50, who works for display cabinet manufacturer Verco in Wallingford, brought his D Type Jaguar.

He added: "My car is a recreation of a 1956 Jaguar D Type – it was a fantastic day out and the weather was sublime.

"The vehicle rally team organised the whole event really well and the spectators cheered everyone on."

Maggie Davies, co-ordinator for the Footsteps Foundation, said: "It was a wonderful parade and rally - the organisers have raised more than £8,000 for the Footsteps Foundation.

"That's enough to provide a whole year of life-changing physiotherapy for a child, which is a tremendous effort.

"Money was mainly raised from members of the public putting money in buckets, and the Sporting Bears car club charged for rides in their supercars."

Miss Davies said rally organisers thanked members of the public for their generous support.

She added: "A date for next year's rally has always been confirmed - it's going to be on Sunday, May 7.

"The event is going from strength to strength as classic car enthusiasts from around the country make this a fixture in their calendar."
