A WALLINGFORD woman who stole tens of thousands of pounds from a stonemasons firm she worked for will have to pay back less than £2,000 a court has ordered.

Victoria Bailie, of Windrush Road, Berinsfield, Wallingford, had already admitted the single count of stealing £74,434.84 from Abingdon Stone and Marble Ltd as well as another count of converting criminal property.

Oxford Crown Court heard that the 37-year old stole the funds from the masonry firm between September 2 2014 and November 5 2015.

She was later jailed for the theft from the Ock Street company for a total of 14 months at a sentencing hearing which was held on January 26.

At a proceeds of crime hearing held at the same court to recover her ill gotten gains yesterday prosecutor Alexandra Bull said that Bailie did not have the tens of thousands of pounds she had stolen, and that the court could not therefore order the whole of the funds be paid back.

She told the hearing that the only 'available' funds that could be made subject to a confiscation order was £1,882.

Accepting her financial situation Judge Peter Ross ordered that she pay the money back directly to the victim - Michael Harris of the firm, by way of compensation.

He said: "In light of the available money I make a confiscation order of £1,882 paid by of compensation to Mr Harris of Abingdon Stone and Marble.

"I give 28 days for payment."
