UPDATE: Schoolboy airlifted to hospital after collision with bus

10:12am Wednesday 16th May 2012 in Wallingford

AN 11-year-old school boy has been airlifted to Oxford’s John Radcliffe Hospital after his foot was crushed by a school bus in Stadhampton this morning.

The Icknield Community College pupil was injured in the incident involving the coach on its way to the Watlington school at about 8.15am in School Lane.

The accident blocked the A329 while the air ambulance and police were at the scene.

How can it be a "collision" with a bus if his foot got run over? The bus clearly ran over him, rather than him running into the bus, and that is true whether he was to blame or not. Headlines like this help people pretend that driving failures are just accidents.

According to witnesses. 3 lads were messing about and the one who got run over was pushed as the bus pulled up

Why was all this money wasted, and delays caused to commuters trying to get to work, by calling the air ambulance? The bus ran over his foot for gods sake not his head. Surely a normal ambulance would have sufficed.

i am sorry for the lad and his family and i hope he we have a fast recovery. But just 1 question.... Why is the driver atomaticaly to blame??????

The 11year old lad was for a short time pinned by the bus and therefore the emergency services sent what they considered suitable for the circumstances, take the time to consider his day...and that of the driver and children involved their actions pervented this incident from becoming anymore serious and I for one would like to thank everyone involved for their swift thinking and professionalism, Lord Peter should get his facts straight before commenting, perhaps he was one of the car drivers that wouldn't reverse out of the way while they were trying to free the lad from under the bus. I hope you have a swift recovery Benn.

'Accidents don't just happen', yes they do and that is exactly what happened here. And instead of criticising the money spent on emergency services, lets be thankful for the fact we have got them and they could get the boy to hospital in rush hour traffic (Yes this actually happened at about 8 this morning), and they could save his foot! How would you feel if this was your relative and people were saying what a waste of money it was? I think some people need to get a reality cheek and stop think about themselves. I am glad the boy is getting better and I hope he is back to his normal self very soon.

i know that boy and he was pushed by a boy in the year above and a mate of his and a boy 2 years above ahd to pull out his foot. I wasnt there but my mate told me. i hope he gets better soon coz hes a good friend!!

I like how 'LORD PETER' just got 'told' by an 11 and 17 year old aha It's true though, this was purely an accident. I feel for the poor bus driver that was treated as a criminal for hours even though it wasn't his fault, but procedures have to be made. I know the boy personally and know he'll be fine and back to normal very soon.

McVey NEVER gets his facts straight. He just responds in knee-jerk fashion by typing a few lines of bull. I'd be interested to know if he, personally, was inconvenienced by this incident.....

It was a crush injury. Crush injuries can kill people within minutes if not dealt with properly.

Diddums, some commuters were a bit late to save a boys foot, if not his life.

The emergency services do what they can with the information they have and made a good call this morning so don't go trying to put the world to rights on this one - jog on.

I am appalled by the way majority of people are blaming the bus driver for the poor school boys injured foot, accidents happen and these lads were messing around these things are bound to happen and end in tears have any of you thought about the bus driver and how he must be feeling. I do hope he is in everyone's thought to cos I damm well know he is in mine hope the boy makes a speedy recover at the same time
